Commercialisation partnerships

Several universities have formed partnerships with firms which specialise in advancing the commercialisation of intellectual property.  Often these agreements include a provision for the establishment of a seed fund by the commercialisation partner in return for equity stakes in spinout companies.  The agreements have a variety of forms, and can be restricted to certain departments within the university, or give a right of first refusal to the partner to invest in a spinout, or provide for some form of profit sharing based on the spinout’s success.  The list of universities with such partnerships includes the following; it is intended to analyse the patterns of company growth of these arrangements as the Spinouts UK project progresses.
